Gettysburg Pennsylvania, on the East Coast of the USA, holds a “First Friday” every month. Shops stay open later, and musical events take place on the square.
In addition, the Ragged Edge Coffeehouse hosts a poetry reading each First Friday.
This consists of an hour of “open mic” and an hour reading by a featured poet. The reading takes place on the second floor of this converted house. It’s free and open to the public.
The reading is almost always full, and the audience ranges from farmers to park rangers to senior citizens to college students of all races and tastes in poetry.
I try to go every month. I love it.
